In the Bay 24 Jun 2007


Dactyliosolen fragilissimus, a chain forming diatom, one of the most abundant species of phytoplankton in the bay.

Are those cells at the right of Pseudo-nitzschia?

Yes, there were two cells and they were gliding back and forth past the D. fragilissimus chain. Those cells are so narrow I could not get a good picture of them with this set-up. I also saw a nice Rhizosolenia setigera cell but those are even thinner and it just looks like a bright line in the photos I took
